African football expert Nuhu Adams has described the ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the incident involving Senegal and Morocco at the AFCON final as appropriate and timely.
CAF sanctioned both federations, with the Senegalese Football Association receiving a cumulative fine of 615,000 dollars, while the Moroccan Football Association was fined 415,000 dollars.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Thursday, January 29, Adams said the sanctions send a strong message across the continent, stressing that such decisive action is necessary to deter similar conduct by other African nations in future tournaments.
“It’s the best of decisions I’ve seen from CAF’s point of view because the punishments are supposed to be severe and decisive, so that other countries will learn from whatever happened in the AFCON final,” he said.
